Ella Shubert is an interdisciplinary artist and designer whose practice examines the subjectivity of one's environment, and awareness as a catalyst for transformation.
She works in a variety of mediums, often referencing commonplace objects and other cultural artifacts of the modern era. Growing up in the USA she is inspired and fascinated by objects found within the systems and institutions of American culture.
Her 3 dimensional work plays with subverting both form and function of symbolic objects, at times using humor to exaggerate their irony or faults. She uses her 2 dimensional practice of drawing and painting to explore perception and a more personal relationship with her own environment. Where her 3 dimensional work taps into broader cultural experience, her drawings and paintings involve documentation of her own surroundings and serves as a process of cataloguing the world as she sees it through still lifes, dream recollections, and note taking.
